Graciasgiving

While most of us will be home in time for Christmas, Thanksgiving will be spent in Spain. We wanted to do something so that we didn't miss out completely on the best excuse to eat a ton of food ever, and so Graciasgiving was conceived.

I ended up taking the lead and planning the event. This required that I find an Airbnb big enough for 12+ Americans, with a stocked kitchen, and that we wouldn't get in trouble for having a party in (jury is still out on if that will work or not, tbd). (UPDATE: Everything was fine except too many people sat on the futon and the leg bent on one side, hopefully we don't get charged too much. Honestly, having 13 people in one apartment, that is not the worst thing that could have happened by far.)

I went and checked into the Airbnb in the afternoon. I was worried for a bit because nobody was there to let me in like the host had said there would be, so I was worried it was a fake listing. Luckily, they were just running late and I got in alright.

Once checked in, I went to the grocery store to get ingredients. I began prepping the food, and Elle and Sam showed up with beverages for the night. Everyone showed up over the next hour or so. It was so nice to have everyone together in one space. It made me kind of sad I haven't spent more time with everyone, and I wish I would have been less socially anxious at the beginning of the program and went out a bit more. But, I am thankful for the fun things we have done together.

Everything turned out really well, and everyone was super glad to get to spend Thanksgiving together. We had Mac and Cheese, potatoes, veggies, and various desserts. After dinner, we played games, chatted, and got ready to go out to Teatro Kapital, a 7-level dance club in Madrid that we went to our very first weekend. I hadn't been since, but others had.

We go there at midnight, which is early by Madrid standards. We ended up staying until 5am, which is also early by Madrid standards.

It was a really good time, and I am glad that everything worked out so well. I am a little worried to see what happens with the Airbnb issue, but getting to spend time with everyone makes it worth it. It makes me want to pack my last month in Madrid as full as possible. It is weird to think that I am almost done with my semester abroad, and I know I am going to be really sad when I head home. But right now, I have to not let that prevent me from enjoying the rest of my time here and make the most of the coming weeks.
